* super hero PEZ, Super Bubble, stickers, lightning bolt tattoo, finger lamp, and a silly straw *
As an additional favor, and in lieu of party hats, I made each guest a super hero inspired mask. I had envisioned the kids all wearing them as they jumped around the bounce house, but it turns out that is a safety hazard. They ended up getting and wearing them while the food was being served. Considering how sweaty they all were by the time we ate, it was probably a good idea anyway.
As far as decor goes, I made yards and yards of ruffled crepe paper streamers in blue, yellow, and red and lined the tables with it...but you'll just have to imagine because I didn't get a single picture of it. There was a comic book pennant to add to the festivities and we cut out a little Chicago skyline out of foam core to decorate the cake table as well. Fun and simple stuff...
M requested cupcakes and I could get on board with the simplicity and utensil free aspect of that. He chose a funfetti style cake and I chose the cream cheese frosting. The lightning bolt toppers were to honor M's love of the Flash.
Things moved so fast and the lighting was so poor that pictures were just too hard to get. I've also been trying to really be aware of myself NOT living the event from behind the camera lens too. That said, I didn't end up with nearly as many photos as I normally would have, but it was worth it. It's all worth it to see how happy this makes the kids.

This is adorable! I was going to do a pirate birthday party for my son but after seeing this I think I've changed my mind.....I hope he's OK with that :)

ReplyDeleteHi - I am wondering if you ever got a chance to post a tutorial for these masks? I'm trying to look at the picture, which gives me a good idea, but I'm not quite clear on the exact material used to make them as sturdy and nice as you made them. I've seen a lot of mask pictures and tutorials online today while I've been searching for a superhero costume to make my son, and your masks are the best I've seen! You are obviously very clever and crafty! I am grateful for you for posting these pictures for the rest of us to see. We all appreciate your hard work very much! Thank you! Please let me know if I can find the tutorial, or even a material list somewhere. Thanks again!
