when the pickin' is good...

Any and all pints of blueberries purchased from a grocery store this year have been bad...just bad. Enter Tammen Treeberry Farm to provide pounds of delicious berries to get us through - 10.8 pounds for us, to be exact.

The farm is an hour and a half away, but it's worth it for these blueberries and for the fun. We met up with Erin, her mother, and most of the Jungsts to get pickin'.

First up was the tractor ride into the fields.

Find a great spot. This was NOT difficult this season.

 ...and get going!

Look at this! The berries were in huge clumps and some even as big around as a quarter. Not to mention they were delicious...because, ya know, some sampling IS part of the fun.

It took a while to get E to try one, but once he did, there was no stopping him. Eventually, he just sat down by the bucket I was filling and snacked.

Between all of us in our group, we gathered close to 50 pounds of these little bundles. So, almost two hours later and berries in hand, we made our way back to where we started to check out, have our lunch, and play.

...but first we needed to wash up.

The weather threatened rain during the drive there, but cleared up and the sun even came out while we were out in the field. A perfect outing that the we all really enjoyed. On the way home we stopped for ice cream, where the boys mercilessly stole Erin's cheesy popcorn...sneaky guys.

Later that evening we even checked off another item from our summer bucket list and played in the rain. This day was officially conquered!

Now...blueberry pancakes, blueberry jam, blueberry muffins, blueberry EVERYTHING...

Fourth of July 2013

Today's activities started at 9:00am and ended a long 13 hours later at 10:00pm. It was a day packed with fun in the park, a cookout, a parade, beach fun, and of course, fireworks. Let's get started.

Holidays require festive shirts to wear, right?

E. So serious.

Now, do your best firework impression...

First we hopped on our bikes and rode to the park for some fun. Running races, sack races, and penny scrambles were among the many activities planned for the community. Oh wait, one more picture of your awesome firework headbands, guys.

They just love posing for me.

M signed up quickly for a little 25 yard dash.

E decided he wanted to participate in the penny scramble...

...and then he didn't. (perhaps getting up at 5:45am wasn't the best thing that could have happened today)

Then, there was a father son sack race. Andrew and M won their heat without any problem.

There were more things to do, but we were on our way to a cookout! After that, the parade.

All the excitement got to this guy...he napped on the way home.

A little later on, we headed out to the beach to claim a spot for fireworks! We all were in good hands with Super Raf.

Glow sticks are standard fare for the beach at night...and ALWAYS cause problems...always. When will I learn to just get one kind of item for everyone?

Fireworks started shortly after I put my camera away. E sat with Grandma B and I'm pretty sure M didn't even see one. He was pretty busy with his glow wand...
