Roach Jockey M

The Bug Bowl was going on at Purdue this weekend so we packed it up and made the trip to Lafayette. M has been studying insects in school so the timing was perfect and we never want to pass up a chance to visit Gabe, Bobbie, and the boys. We invited our cousins from Indianapolis to come join us on Saturday. 

We couldn't help but go back on Sunday with another set of cousins. M rode a (too big) bike to lift some ping pong balls...

...while daddy and Gabe rode these bikes to be nothing but fun.

The weather wasn't as nice as we would have liked so we ventured into one of the buildings to discover we were just in time for some roach racing. M wanted to put his name in the hat to be a Roach Jockey so while we waited for bets to be placed and more people to arrive, the kids "practiced college".

Then M's name was called to be the green Roach Jockey! I think he was a little stunned to up there in front of everyone, but he got a cool green hat and he was holding some bugs...so he was alright.

And they're off! They told the kids they had to eat their roach if it lost, and I'm pretty sure M believed him for a second. He looked over at me with some really wide eyes...

His roach came in 3rd...and he didn't have to eat him. He did get to keep the hat though and he got a fun certificate.

Bernie's easter egg hunt

Thankfully, we were in town this year for Bernie's annual Easter Egg Hunt! This is always fun with tons of kids and even more eggs to find. I whipped up some baskets for the boys and we were on our way.

M was intent on being the one who finds the most eggs...and he did!

E was a little more low key. & I wouldn't have expected anything else...

hot dogs and movies

If you're in Anderson, you must go to Gene's Root Beer Stand...so we did! Hot dogs with the softest steamed buns and the root beer. I don't know what it is, but a root beer in a frosty mug just tastes better.

E was not so sure about is root beer at first.

This was followed by a trip to see The Croods. Bam! Day 4 of Spring Break 2013...done.

Hot Wheels, Transformers, & Geckos!

It was an open to close day for us and Mimi at the Indianapolis Children's Museum today...& I think the boys could have stayed even longer. We resolved to just do whatever they wanted and spend as much time as they liked at all the places. We didn't make it to all the exhibits, but they ruled the day and we all ended up having tons of fun.

M couldn't believe he touched a real dinosaur bone!

Green is the favorite color for M right now...and because it is M's, it's E's too.

Day 3 of Spring Break 2013 in the books!

spring break started with food

Once in Anderson, we were in search of dinner. The choice was M's and he chose Pizza King to start. Mommy's boy...

Then, he wanted frozen yogurt for dessert. ...with fruity pebbles and chocolate sprinkles, of course.

& with that day 1 of Spring Break 2013 was deemed a success.

Fun with the big boys.

A ride in Uncle Gabe's "racecar" was first on M's schedule for yesterday. (sadly, no pictures)  Daddy installed his seat, M put on his sunglasses and took fun ride.  That's F-U-N.  Fun enough to raise both arms while taking the curves.  I can assure you, this is most adorable when you're following behind.

Then, M moved on to hone his basketball skills.

On the hunt...

A pleasant surprise fell upon us last Saturday with a phone call from one of our long time family friends.  It turns out she was hosting their annual Easter egg hunt and since we were in town for a weekend of birthdays, we were more than welcome to join in the fun.  There was no way we were missing this. & to say that M had fun, would be a serious understatement.

After the hunt, there was still fun to be had...

 It took a little convincing, but we did get M to take a short ride on the Gator...with Mimi, of course.

Santa just might need to bring M a snowglobe in his stocking. He just loves these things.

Day 17
[Purchase and donate canned goods]

The shopping was a highlight for M. He had his own cart and picked out all his favorite things to donate (in non-perishable form)...macaroni and cheese, tuna, corn, oranges, blueberry muffins, ravioli, hot chocolate...

Sadly, the church office was closed when M and Mimi arrived to make the donation, but M got the idea.

Day 16
[Make Christmas cookies and deliver them to friends]

Looks good! & it seems like there might be some quality control going on too.

Thankfully, this lucky friend lives right next door.
